Allergies are running amok here on Martha's Vineyard and it's lasted over a month. First came the flowering shad or wild pear, our island's harbinger of spring. Then came the grass, pine and oak pollens - they coated my car's dashboard with bright yellow dust.
Now we have the wildflowers that make the vineyard spring so beautiful. The Rosa Rugosa (beach rose) which carpets the sand dunes.

The choke cherry blossoms have come and gone before I can capture them with a photo, but later in the summer the cherries will attract flocks of birds and then intoxicate them.
The Hedge Rose is everywhere, an escapee from plants brought by colonists to separate their fields.
This week, the locust trees are in flower.
Soon it will be the Scotch Broom and the Privet - both of which compete for the evilest smelling plants I know.
